The Outpost
Members of Afghan's security forces carry a wounded comrade into a US Army medevac
helicopter that landed on the outer perimeter of Combat Outpost Pirtle King, near the village of Tsunek, in Afghanistan's northeast Kunar Province, March 11, 2010. Two members of the Afghan security forces were injured during an ambush in the village of Zanger Bosha and were evacuated to the outpost for initial treatment. The two were then taken by helicopter to Jalalabad for further medical attention. Both Afghans were expected to survive. (Photo: Moises Saman/The New York Times/Hollandse Hoogte)
365 Days of the year, 24 hours of the day, through the rain and the sunshine their eyes are focused on the horizon looking for the enemy. 18 Soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division have just one task. To prevent Taliban fighters from crossing the Afghan-Pakistan border in the Korengal Valley.
